Our project focused on understanding how the Yacyretá Dam works and how water flow can be used to generate energy. After visiting the dam in person, we designed a 3D model and later built a physical version with real flowing water. The project helped us explore engineering, renewable energy, and hydroelectric systems in a hands-on way.
We wanted to learn more about how hydroelectric dams produce electricity and control water flow. Visiting the Yacyretá Dam inspired us to recreate and better understand its structure and operation. We also wanted to challenge ourselves by combining digital design with a real working model.
First, we researched the structure and operation of the Yacyretá Dam during our visit. Then, we created a 3D design of the dam to plan the structure and dimensions. After that, we built a physical model and added a water flow system to simulate how the dam works in real life.
We found that water pressure and flow are very important for how a dam functions and produces energy. Our model successfully demonstrated how water moves through different sections of the dam. Testing the project also helped us understand the challenges of balancing water flow, stability, and design accuracy.
Our results show how renewable energy systems like hydroelectric dams can be explained through interactive models. The project helped us better understand engineering concepts and the importance of sustainable energy sources. It also showed that hands-on projects can make complex systems easier to learn and visualize.
Next time, we would improve the design by making the water system more precise and adding moving turbine components. We could also use stronger materials and more detailed measurements to make the model more realistic. In the future, we would like to include lights or small generators powered by the flowing water.
We used information from our visit to the Yacyretá Dam and from online research about hydroelectric energy and dam engineering. We also received guidance from our teachers and classmates during the project.
