I redesigned the book covers of the entire A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series to make them more visually appealing and better connected to the storyline and characters.
I love the ACOTAR series, but I felt the original covers didn’t fully capture the depth, mood, and themes of the books. I wanted to create designs that reflect the fantasy elements, emotional arcs, and key symbols from each story.
I used Canva to design all the new covers. It allowed me to work with layers, fonts, and imagery in a way that was simple but professional-looking.
First, I reread summaries of each book to identify the key themes and visuals. Then I sketched rough ideas for the cover designs. After that, I used Canva to build each cover, playing with colors, typography, and images that matched the tone of each book. Finally, I reviewed all the designs to make sure they worked together as a series.
After testing different layouts and visual ideas, I found that using specific symbols and color palettes related to each book made the covers more eye-catching and meaningful. The designs worked better when I focused on key themes like power, love, and transformation. Even though I didn’t use numbers, I compared the mood of my designs to the original covers and saw a clear improvement in how they reflected the story.
The new covers show how design can affect how people connect with a story before even reading it. I learned that small design choices, like font or imagery, can completely change the vibe of a book. This project helps show how important it is for book covers to match the tone and feel of the story inside.
Next time, I’d like to print the covers and test how they look as real book jackets. I could also ask ACOTAR fans for feedback or try redesigning the spines and back covers too. Another idea would be to animate the covers for digital platforms like e-readers or social media.
I used images and fonts from Canva’s free design library. I also re-read summaries and quotes from the ACOTAR books by Sarah J. Maas to make sure the covers matched the story.
