The Judges Committee has awarded this submission EXCELLENCE IN SCIENTIFIC COLLECTING
PROJECT SUMMARY
My project is a seed collection because there are so many different shapes and forms of seeds. I am really interested in plants and animals.
WHY?
I enjoy collecting, planting, studying, and specially like to watch them grow. It´s amazing how something so small can grow into something so big and in some cases gigantic!
HOW?
I collected seeds from home, our back yard, the farm or just anywhere. I put each seed group separately and labelled them after finding out the names.
WHAT?
Seeds have different and incredible defense systems, spreading techniques, colors and shapes for a special reason. For example, mushroom´s roots go together to form another one, some seeds explode to spread out, some seeds fly in the wind and some seeds are eaten and then pooed to be able to germinate.
SO WHAT?
I learned that nature is very wise and beautiful. Also nature is very smart to solve problems.
WHAT'S NEXT?
With more time I would of gathered more seed and planted some of them and even recorded them growing.
REFERENCES & ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I want to thank Mrs. Reynolds for giving us this activity, my dad for helping me with the project and Mr. Shelden for encouraging me to put it in the expo.
JUDGES FEEDBACK
This is the work of a young scientist in the making. You have the start of a carefully organized collection by keeping them in divided sections and labeling them. It's very clear that you are doing this project out of interest and learning at the same time. I would love to see this collection continue and grow!
