For my project, I made a smart piggy bank! I designed the outside of the box by hand, adding drawings and motivational quotes to make it look fun and inspiring. Inside, I built a simple circuit using LittleBits. Every time I put money inside, a light turns on to show that I’m saving. It’s a creative way to mix art, technology, and saving money.
I love using technology, and I also think it’s important to learn about money and how to save. This project helped me mix both things together. I also like crafting, so I had fun decorating the box and making it feel personal.
First, I made the piggy bank box and decorated it with paper, markers, and quotes that I wrote myself. Then I used LittleBits to build a circuit inside. When I put money into the box, it activates a sensor that turns on a light. I had to test a few times to get it to work the way I wanted, and I also had to make sure the wires didn’t move.
I learned that even a small circuit can make something feel smart and interactive. I also learned how to connect LittleBits and test the system. I saw that technology can be used in simple ways to help us build better habits.
My piggy bank helps make saving fun and encouraging. It’s not just about putting money in a box,it gives you a little reward every time you do it. I think it can help kids (and adults too!) enjoy saving and be more aware of their goals.
Next, I want to add a counter that shows how many times I added money or how much I’ve saved. I’d also like to make a version that makes a sound or shows a message on a screen. In the future, I hope to keep building tech projects for financial education.
I used my own ideas and creativity to design the box and build the circuit. Thank you to my teacher for helping me with the LittleBits and showing me how to make it work safely.
