PROJECT SUMMARY

For my Project, I made a 3D shark made out of cardboard, which was articulated so it would separate and move around with its body parts: the head and tail. This articulated shark would be connected together by a clip; since it was metal and could bend, it would not separate, and it would be able to move around easily. Extra details were added like fins, teeth and eyes to make the shark look realistic.

WHY?

I made this project because the ocean and its creatures really inspire me and make me curious about things. This shark represents all those thoughts put into one single piece of work.

HOW?

To create my project, I gathered some cardboard for the main body and plastic cogwheels for the eyes and carved it all in order to make a fin, tail, etc. First, I connected the cardboard in order to make 2 boxes, which then I poked holes through to make the clip fit in. After connecting them with hot glue and tape, I added extra details such as fins or teeth.

WHAT?

I found out that this project worked out really well, and that such a simple thing like a clip can connect 2 big pieces of cardboard. It's really impressive the project I made. The shark is really simple; you hold it by the tail and head, and then move it around so it can twist and turn.

SO WHAT?

The result of this project was really good; I learned lots of things in STEAM from this project. I learnt things like connecting cardboard, using a hot glue gun and carving.

WHAT'S NEXT?

I could extend my project by adding more body parts to the shark and making it much easier to move around. The result of the project was good, but I could have done better than it is, so my next step is to find a new material in which I can make the new shark out of.

REFERENCES & ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This idea I have collected from the roblox game Build A Boat For Treasure. This game I have played for a while and has become one of my most favorite games, and a really popular build was the articulated shark which could move around its body parts in a very flexible way. In this Project I did with my friends BL, RB and RR I recreated one of these sharks.

JUDGES FEEDBACK

It's very apparent that this project was a labor of love and interest. You express an interest in modeling sea creatures and share how you learned about cardboard prototyping in the process. I would love to see images of where the specific articulation of the moving parts occurs.
