The Judges Committee has awarded this submission EXCELLENCE IN 3D MODELING

PROJECT SUMMARY

The name of our device is a homemade water filter, as its name indicates, it is a filter which seeks to solve the water shortage that will arrive at some point and that there may be more easily accessible and slightly cheaper solutions. What we hope to achieve with our project is to filter water easily and we try to make a change and at the same time show how easy and beneficial it can be with materials that can be found in your home.

WHY?

We are concerned about access to drinking water and how many communities do not have access to it

HOW?

We brainstormed problems and solutions where each colleague connected to a digital platform to discuss the ideas, after choosing the problem we went on to choose the solution and how to ideate and we worked on sketches and designs

WHAT?

Our filter at the top has a funnel that connects to the bottle and inside the bottle it will have rocks, gravel, sand, activated carbon and at the mouth of the bottle there will be cotton that will then be connected to a cup that will heat the water With a stove or fire it will be supported with a tripod stand. First we make a sketch and then we do the modeling in Fusion 360.

We need a one-liter water bottle, hot glue gun, sand, cotton, rocks, water to be treated, activated charcoal, a campfire or an electric stove, something to hold the bottle.

SO WHAT?

We learned that rocks filter large objects and sand filters finer things and that to know if the water is suitable for consumption we must ensure that it is free of bacteria and not only clean.

WHAT'S NEXT?

We would like to be able to test other homemade devices, take water samples from a specific community to test our prototype.

JUDGES FEEDBACK

Your filter design looks well thought out and practical! I appreciate the methodology you used to create the prototype and the technical details involved. The 3D model is impressive and showcases your design skills effectively. It seems like your project could be a viable solution to the concerns about running out of clean water. I'd love to see a physical version of this water filter to see how it works! Great job!
